A look at the second 10 conversations in a Pimsleur Comprehensive I course

 In the second 10 conversations of a Pimsleur Comprehensive course, the student begins to master the use of numbers.  The constant repetition may be tiring to some people, but it develops speed in one of the most important topics of any foreign language.  When I went to Japan, the cashiers didn’t slow down the numbers for me.  Despite having gone through the Pimsleur number exercises, I was still a bit slow, but I was a lot faster than I would have been without Pimsleur. 

 

But what’s even better, the second 10 lessons teaches you how to order food and go shopping!  Who wouldn’t want to know how to do that?

 

Looking further ahead at the later lessons, we see how far the student has progressed in just 20 lessons – in just 10 hours of language training!  J

 

 

Lesson 11:

At what time do you want to eat lunch?

At one clock.

No, one o’clock is not good.  How about two o’clock?

No, two o’clock is not good..

Then how about three o’clock?

No, three o’clock is not good..

How about four o’clock?

No, that’s not good.

Five o’clock?

No, later.

Well then, seven o’clock.  Is that good?

No, seven oclock is not good.

But nine oclock?  Is that good?

No, nine oclock is not good.

I don’t want to eat lunch with you.

 

Lesson 12:

Hello, is this Ms. Ito?

Yes, this is Ms. Ito.

This is Mr. Suzuki.  Good day, are you doing well?

Yes, I am well.  Thank you.

Ms. Ito, will you eat dinner with me tonight?

I'm sorry, tonight is not good, but tomorrow is good.

Yes, I understand.  What time?  Seven o'clock?

No, seven o'clock is not good.

Then, eight o'clock?

That is good.  Then, tomorrow night at eight o'clock at my place.

Yes, I understand.

Hello, Ms. Ito please.  Ah, this is Ms. Ito?  Good day, this is Mr. Tanaka.

Yes, thank you.  Ms. Ito, what are you doing tonight?

Would you like to eat dinner with me?

Yes, we have.  Yes, over here.

Thank you.  How much is it?

It's 3 dollars.

One bottle of beer is 13 dollars?

No, not 13 dollars.  It's 3 dollars.

Lesson 15:

Well, I'm leaving.

Where to?

Me?  I'm going to buy something.

But you do not have yen right?

Yes, I do not have yen. But I have dollars.

How many dollars do you have?

8 or 9 dollars.

Then, I'll give you 10 dollars.  And here's some yen.  Here you go. 

Now you have 19 dollars, right?  How many yen do you have?

I don't know.  But I have a lot.  Thank you.

Hello, is this Ms. Suzuki?  This is Mr. Jones.  Good evening.

No, I don't have much money.

35 yen or 40 yen.

How about dollars?  How much do you have?

I have 45 dollars or 50 dollars.  That's not enough.  Please give me a little money.

No, I can not give you any.  You have enough.  Too much.

I want to buy something.

What do you want to buy?

A hat.  A Japanese hat.

A Japanese hat?  How much?

It's not expensive.  1000 yen.

1000 yen.  It's 10 dollars, yes?  It's not expensive.

Then, please give me money.

Yes, here's 1000 yen.  Is that enough?
